Motorrad Stemler

Post by thicko »

Motorrad Stemler is an excellent resource. They were able to supply all of my missing pieces for my 1950 R51/2, just let them know what you need. Many of the pieces they provided were for the engine that no others listed or had in stock. I could not have done this bike without them.

Vintage BMW Shop in Berlin, Germany

Post by 55reasons »

I wanted to take the time to say thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

I found a LOCAL shop that is quite a specialist with these. I'm sure that will stop happening when I leave Germany!

If you are ever in the Berlin area, I would recommend swinging by " Ideal Motorräder&Seitenwagen" Köpenicker Strasse 8 10997 Berlin for a minute. Even if it's just to get a "vibe" of the building and the setting that's so fitting for the bikes inside of it.

They have been really great so far.

Ideal fixed me up with ALL of the switchgear for my R2 and there was even a Steib t-shirt in the box when it arrived!

update / battle damage assessment

Update:

It's a good thing I took it in to have it looked at when I did. Normally I would do the work myself, but being over here without all my tools, and having such great resources here in the country, I couldn't go wrong with having it looked at while I was here instead of waiting until I got back state-side.

Major error when the rear drive was assembled by the last guy that opened it up before I got it caused serious (catastrophic) damage to the rear drive gear. the whole drive assembly had to be replaced from the shaft back, basically. All new bearing on all assemblies, etc.

...not a cheap repair by any means, and 1950 rear drive main gears don't grow on trees these days.

Bottom line though, thanks to Ideal, is it's coming back from the shop almost in better running shape than new.

Ideal Motorräder & Seitenwagen sets the bar pretty high. Absolute professionals. Great to do business with, and willing to dig deep to get the hard-to-find stuff. Their shop is and awesome sight as well. I won't even tell you what's in it. :O
