Mmmmm...........

Post by Andy »

Clearance on the clamps looks very tight and the clamps look as if they are castings. I suspect that they would snap if I tried to open them up even a small amount. In the end I would probably have to cut the bars to slide them off anyway. It's a bit of a manufacturing conundrum.... did they put the clamps on, weld in the cross brace and then chrome everything?

To be honest they look in rough shape and would need to be restored. I am thinking new handlebars and clamps might be the way to go.

Any idea on prices for a straight bar and clamps?

The cross brace bars.aka "US

Post by 808Airhead »

The cross brace bars.aka "US bars"came on my bike as well. They were designed for the more "upright" American motorcycle driving style.
IMO they are the least attractive looking bar, looking like a motorcross bike bar,so I swapped mine out to the Euro bar.
I also needed to remove the risers so I could get them rechromed,I simply just cut the handlebars right before the bend and the risers slid right off,and I threw the US bars away.
Those same risers are on my bike now after rechroming. I sacrificed a set of handlebars but ended up with perfect risers. Handlebars are only 60 dollars or so,risers over 2X that.

Good advise

Yeah, I figured that would probably be the way to go. I am not a fan of the higher style bars myself anyway so will swap to a lower style. Good to know, thanks
