replacing the oil pressure sending unit

Post by biker_mike »

On my 1971 R60/5, I'm replacing the sending unit. The old one leaked so I bought a BMW replacement. My question is, is there a sealing washer between the unit and the engine block? The reason I ask is that the old one I removed didn't have one.The parts
fishe I found on the internet does not show one, but the parts guy at the BMW shop says there is one. Anyone have the answer?

Thanks,Mike

RealOEM doesn't show

RealOEM doesn't show it...maybe that's what you checked;see #16 here:

It probably has some kind of tapered side to seal on the case. Since your old one didn't have it, likely you don't need one now. I've never replaced mine as yet.

When installing, don't torque it too much, otherwise you'll distort it and it will leak. I believe it just needs to be mildly snug. Also, you can lean the bike over to the right and change it with no loss of oil.

Well, I replaced the oil

Well, I replaced the oil pressure sending unit. Replaced it just like the old one came out. And...no leaks!
Much cleaner bike and works great. Thanks Kurt for the feedback.
