Handlebar Tape

Post by f11at125 »

I have a '76 R75/6 that has given me nothing but pleasure over the past two months. Everything is untouched, and what needs fixing is mostly cosmetic - like the handlebars.

The chrome is crinkled.

It cleans up ok with 0000 steel wool, but I was thinking about customizing it with a blue and white handlebar tape braid - checkers-a-la-BMW logo - like this: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__Tx_fI3G4pk/S ... G_1194.jpg

Or maybe just black...

Anyone ever try this? I'd love to see pics if so!

Thanks,

Doug

I've never seen or heard of anyone doing something like that, but if it floats your boat, go for it! You can always remove it. Are these type of things waterproof? Any problem if they trap water and hold it in there? I wonder if that might accelerate any corrosion over time.

What about color coordinating with your bike's colors? But the blue and white sounds like good colors. Just make sure it doesn't look too much like a BMW roundel...you'll have the copyright police all over you! :))
