New member, new owner, new problems..... Springs in Bings?

Check with Bing, they can confirm whether you need the springs or not. I'm not sure how essential they are. If they were that critical, all carbs would have them.

There are other diaphrams that can be used, Stromberg something or others... I suggest you get something either from Bing or your dealer or other parts suppliers. Personally, I don't think you get the same flexibility with other non-Bing parts which only then affects carb performance.

Snowbum mentions the Stromberg parts on these pages:

New member, new owner, new problems..... Springs in Bings?

Hey all,

Just brought home my new/old 1973 R75/5 toaster. Took the Bings apart to fugure out a lumpy cold start issue (found only one choke cable hooked up).
In the process of inspecting the carb diaphragms, I noticed a large part "missing" from each carb, namely a compression spring pictured in the manual. It pushes down on the piston/needle assy, under the lid. I'm used to seeing these in SU carbs, are there supposed to be "springs in Bings"?
These are 64/32/9's and 10's.
Also, researching these diaphrams, they are not cheap! Any suggestions where I might get them at a resonable price?

Thanks in advance
