Leather Panniers

Post by VBMWMO »

Hi All,
Does anyone know of a source for reproduction brown leather bags of the type on the R75 military bikes? They appear, in the photos I've seen, a good bit larger than the "police bag" set-up I have now.

Failing that, does anyone know of a leatherworker that can make bags in the style of the leather tool case on p.46 and 47, of "The Art of BMW", by Peter Gantriis?

Everything I seem to find searching vintage or antique bags is H.D. style with fringe and conchos. Any help would be great.
Thanks, rob jones

You can find reproduction milirary panniers from HP Hommes Ersatzteil-Dienst in Germany. He has his made in Poland. I have two 1941 BMW R-75s, one with lether panniers I received while in Norway. Regards fron Aus

I believe these to be late

I believe these to be late 50's Butler & Smith bags as they came off a R60. The dimensions are about 15" x 6". There is some silver(chrome like) piping on the outside seam, and some stainless beauty trim around the lid edge. The brackets for the R60 are also in the photo. They are very similar to what's pictured on Duane's saddle bag page.

A biker at a leather shop made new lids free of charge because of their antiquity. I think conchos were extra, I didn't ask.
