Switching to "Euro" Handlebars on /5

Post by schrader7032 »

I typically don't follow low bars discussions as they don't interest me, so I can't offer much help. You say you didn't find much discussion...maybe not here but I've seen other forums - Airheads, Boxwerworks, MOA - discuss such issues. Perhaps /5United has had some discussions. My thoughts:

1. Again, don't know bars, but I've heard the names Flanders, Clubman.

2. I would think you should replace the cables just so you didn't have extra getting in the way. The fiche shows that there are two cables available for high and low bars. For the clutch, the difference in length is 1345mm vs 1485mm. For the accel, it's 1007 vs 1096mm.

3. All you're doing is shortening them...seems like you should route them the same unless there's something you don't like about the current path. You don't want the throttle cables coming into the carbs at an angle...too short cables can create a kink there.

4. There are a variety of bar-end mirrors...I believe Vech sells some varieties. Vech also sells mirrors (Albert?) that mount to the headlight. I'll borrow some pictures from Allan's website...he had good illustrations of these things:

Switching to "Euro" Handlebars on /5

Post by VBMWMO »

I want to switch from the higher U.S. bars to the lower Euro bars on my 1972 R75/5. I thought there would be alot of info about this but could not find any. I know this should be an easy swap but here are my questions.
1. I know I need 22mm bars but are all manufacturers the same or should i look at a particular brand?
2. Do I need to replace any cables to shorter ones and if so which ones?
3. Do i route the cables the same?
4. What is the best mirror setup with the lower bars?

Thanks in advance for any help
