Newbie to vintage BMW ownership!
I just purchased a 1968 R60US and replaced all the fluids.
I have a question regarding whether I have a stock oil pan (2 quarts) or deep oil pan (3.7 quarts).
The depth of my pan is about 2.25”
Barely an inch??? It's installed...not easy to get down there. Here's a side picture I took when doing my bottom end. You can see how much of the pan sticks out past the engine case...not much.

Fast. Neat. Average. Friendly. Good. Good.
I think that may be a Bowman oil pan...way you can tell is the Bowman has a hole for an oil temp sender as well as the oil drain plug hole. Nice ancient accessory item if so. I seem to recall the oil temp sender from a 6 volt VW will fit?...others will chime in?
Ditch that thing for a standard pan. If the bike needed more than 2 quarts, the guys who designed it would’ve said so. Oil changes with the standard pan are easy peasy. Drain hot oil, dump in 2 quarts and go. No measuring or fiddling around.
Someone’s always trying to reinvent the wheel and in this case it’s not worth the trouble.
Bonjour à tous !
Là aussi, les avis sont partagés sur l'utilité d'augmenter le volume d'huile...
Personnellement, je trouve ce carter aluminium très joli, je l'ai adapté (en plus de profondes modifications du circuit d'huile).
