Sometimes it’s just fate

Post by 808Airhead »

There is a small town in Oahu, Hawaiian islands called Wahiawa, it is a old place and has its moments of beauty. I acquired my first BMW 14 years ago, and it was pure serendipity that a friend of mine saw my bike and said ( in our local dialect/pidgin) “ you like those kine bikes?” , he then said “get one right up da street, same li’dat”… I was thinking , probably a /5 or a newer bike. At this point I was just starting my BMW passion and I was happy with “just one”…( a 10k mile, 1 owner R60/2) so another bike wasn’t even on my radar. So I took a chance, and I went to this old motorcycle shop just 3 blocks from my place of business! I couldn’t believe it when I saw a neglected, ignored, passed by 1966 R69S! It had been sitting at this shop for 30+ years just waiting for ME. I paid the asking price of $3,000.00 and it was in rough shape, but complete, it has the bench seat and high bars which made it less “eye catching”🤷🏽‍♂️, but nobody wanted her He had wheeled it out during the day and wheeled it back in at night so it had been exposed to humid weather. I felt so fortunate, it was true fate for me to end up with this girl. I saved her , when so many looked away. BMW never had a dealership here in the 60’s , so all old bikes were brought here, which makes it even more lucky! The shop has been closed for the last 10 years or so, the owner having health problems, but the shop is still there, I decided to take a picture before it’s gone…..Hope you enjoyed my story..Aloha nui!🤙🏽
