R51/3 clutch adjustment screw

Post by Vegtamr »

Whereas a new cable and cable and careful adjustment at both ends has my R51/3 shifting (relatively) smoothly, I am having issues with the adjuster screw (at the throwout arm) backing out over the course of a ride. The various parts fiches seem to show a locknut (#16 in the diagrams) similar to what I'm familiar with in my later bikes, but there is not a corresponding part number or description. My bike has no such locknut. Should there be one, and if so can someone provide the dimensions?

Thanks

According the the Salis Parts site: Part # 07119921056 Nut M6

https://www.bmwclassicmotorcycles.com/p ... rt-one-26/

It might be easier to go to a good hardware store with the bolt in hand and find a good quality nut that fits it.

Right. Just note that a flat one is requiered there.
The handlebars levers have the same one.
If you don't find a flat one - take a regular one with a std. M6 bolt and sand it down. The bolt will be used to clean the nut's thread after sanding.

The dog point adjuster bolt and the thin jam nut are both available new.
21 52 1 020 116 is the dog point bolt
07 11 9 921 056 is the thin, 6 mm x 1.0 jam nut.

Any good hardware store should carry a 6x1.0 jam nut
