NEW EVERBEST and no leaky float top

Post by 808Airhead »

Just wanted to share some tips for our fuel systems. I recently rebuilt a1958 R69 and didn’t want to use the Karcoma petcock , I wanted the original style, and found some on Amazon and eBay for sale between 20-40 dollars. These are all the SAME , built in a Chinese factory that manufactures petcocks. It worked great until the inner rubber seal swelled slightly, but enough to push the “lever” out and get a slight leak. I disassembled it and found they made it the same exact way as the original, but with a rubber, instead of cork seal. The lever also has a smaller shaft to compensate for the thicker rubber seal. It’s a great design and actually decently made except for the retaining ring is not clamped/ peened enough to withstand the pressure of the seal swelling slightly when gas hits it. I purchased a couple more ( they are only 20 bux😂) and peened them with a hammer and punch, 300 miles later, perfect . I will check in and see how it holds up but so far, so good! I included some pics of my float bowl lids that, even with filing the ends “up” so I know the perimeter is clamping , and cleaning the bodies up with a razor blade/ smoothing out the edge, would still leak. I just used the same trick as I do on the leaky fiber washers for the jet covers… I simply smear a LIGHT coat of Permatex Ultra grey on both sides of the paper washer and NO leak at all! Love it!! 🤙🏽🤙🏽
