Check the connection underneath the transmission. Be sure the push-on connection is clean and tight.

How many miles do you have on the bike? it more than likely is a shot switch if you have many miles.
For contact connect check not only the two plugs on the switch itself but also on the wiring from the switch to the main wiring harness, I believe there is a plug connector in the line someplace that could be corroded. St,
