R60/2 Ugly Battery

Post by Worleybird89 »

I recently had to replace the battery in my '67 R60/2, and the new battery is just plain ugly! This is the same battery that Max BMW sells, a Yuasa B38-6A, but the picture on the Max BMW site is not this awful seafoam green color. Has anyone else faced a similar dilemma and tried to cover up such an eyesore? Recommendations? I've considered spray painting the battery, but I'm concerned the paint will not stick for long. Maybe some black vinyl with adhesive backing? Fabricate a sheet metal box that could be properly prepped and painted? I'm not looking for show quality perfection, just something that makes the battery look like it belongs on the bike.

I spray painted a 6v battery for my R25/2 a while back. I put some tape across the area showing the min/max lines. Then I applied some sand paper to the battery sides, then painted. I don't remember what I use to paint with.

You’re quite right, that really is an ugly battery. I had the same issue so I painted the battery with hammer finish paint from a local hardware store.
Taping off the liquid level window and adding a Bosch sticker.

These 6V AGM batteries (available on ebay, just type in # on the battery, MBT6N6 ) are excellent, cheap and fit perfectly into these readily available vintage battery shells. No acid to spill, and vintage era look.

Very nice, I have used this set up on my plunger frame bike.
On my R69S I converted to 12 volt alternator and used two R27 batteries. I couldn’t find an AGM battery the correct size so I used the acid type.

Black gaffer tape wrap, with a window cut to show the level is good enough for my scruffy bike!

Rode for years with the mint green Yuasa B38-6. That’s what we had!

I used gloss black vinyl wrap from Amazon for $9. Looks great. Easy to apply/remove.

Think Ill go with a AGM battery
6 Volts 5 amps (my bikes all have led lights and 1 USB connector) no heated gear !
Can paint gloss black and don't have to leave a window to see fluid level
Can put 2 in parallel for 6 volts,10 amps (60 watts) or 2 in series for 12 volt 5 amp (60 watts) on my bikes

Will order this:
https://www.amazon.com/Miady-Rechargeab ... ive&sr=1-7

Also order some stickers from
