R26 lubrication

Post by bigdave »

Checking oil flow to rockers on my project. Can run a pipe cleaner through intake side but not the exhaust side. Looking in it looks as if the rocker standoff has a hole that is not lined up toward the hole in the head. How can I turn the standoff so the hole lines up? This head came with the project and looks like it has new valves & springs. Barrington Bible tells me the standoffs can be removed to add shims if they are not at the correct height, but not how to remove them. Any suggestions welcome.

The Motorräder Vol/Iss 42/4 has an article by Chris Betjemann on the oil circulation for the R26/R27 engines. A general description and visuals it seems.

Kurt,
Thanks for the response. I found the article in my Barrington for singles on pg. 128. Top right picture shows the rocker support with oil feed holes. My problem is that the feed holes do not line up with the holes in the head that should feed oil to them. Whoever put the supports in the head did not line them up correctly. The other support does line up and a pipe cleaner will feed through.
How do I spin the support in the head? Is it another case of "heat is your friend"?
I am trying to find all the problems the previous owners had before final assembly.

I'm not totally familiar with your situation. I have feed holes on my R25/2 but it's been so long. Any chance that the engine parts are not original to each other? Hard to believe though...

IFrom the R25/3 onward the lubrication of the rockers is completely different from the R25 and R25/2. The oil flows along the cylinderheadstuds to the rockers. Often those channels are completely filled with soot. You will have to pull those tubes from the head where the headbolts are running through, to clean them up.

I don't understand the problem with the pipe cleaner, but I think you are looking at the wrong part.

I understand that the oil flows through channels in the head and to the rocker supports. I ran a pipe cleaner through the channels to be sure they were clear. The channels are clear, but do not line up with the opening in the support (as seen in the pictures in Barrington). I need to get the supports to rotate 30 degrees or so to have the opening line up with the channel in the head.
How do I get the support loose enough to rotate or remove them?

Aha I see. Didn’t understand your description.
Heat the head good hot and pull them out.
