1961 R50S carbs

Post by bgrelinger »

I'm looking for a right R50S carb, but would be interested in a pair for a new project. (1/26/71-72) I know they are hard to find but I believe they are out there. I am also looking for a 25/7 final drive for the same bike. Can anyone help or provide guidance to where I might look?

There's a listing for /2 carbs...they also claim for R50S...on ebay...for a price! There's also German ebay?? Maybe find yourself in Germany and attend Veterama?? All that is kinda out there!

I once had a set of carbs where the main/idle jet numbers had been neatly milled off, and then restamped. As you may know, the 26mm Bing bodies (for BMW twin) only come in two varieties, for the R68/R69, and for the R69S, and the jet numbers are factory stamped depending on what time-of-production motorcycle they are to be used on. Maybe you could just take a set of R69S carbs and do the same?
As for that final drive ratio...a true unicorn I'd guess?
Where do you find correct fitting R50S headers: pair of unicorns?

The bike has a 1/26 71 on the left and a 1/26 76 on the right (off of a R69S). I would love to locate a 1/26 72 for the right. A pair of 1/26 77-78 or 1/26 95-96 would be fine as well. The final drive 25/7 was likely a R50s only.
Vech is there a difference in the 1/26 71-72, 77-78 and 95-96 used on the R50S?

Looks like all the jets/settings for all those carbs are the same. The slide can make a difference but in this case they are all the same.
