camshaft and cam followers

Post by shoe1151 »

question: I removed my cam followers from my 74 R90/6 and noticed the position of the cam only allows about 1/2 of the cam lobe to come in contact with the cam follower, it"s like the cam is setting toward the rear too far. is that normal? I would think the whole surface of the lobe would contact the follower! any thoughts?

That is normal. I believe it promotes the follower to turn so that the same surface is not always contacting the cam.

thanks Schrader, I hoped that was the case, but after I have seen a few things on this bike I think I am starting to get paranoid!
I appreciate all your help.

What Kurt said is exactly right. It actually makes the lifters wear evenly.
