/5 side covers

Post by mcsherry1328 »

I am working on a friends 1971 R60/5 and am wondering if this bike did not come with side covers. I have a /6 which has color matched side covers but am not sure about this bike. The illustration on the owners manual shows it without side covers.

One of Ian Falloon's books suggests that the '70 and '71 models did not have side covers. He has several pictures of early /5s without covers.

Kurt is correct, if it’s really a 1971 model, then no sidecovers. These were 1972 & 1973 models only. To add them you’d need a frame tail section from the later models with the tabs welded on that hold the rear part of the sidecover in place.

Thanks once again for the expert answers and tribal knowledge. I did notice that there was no tabs on the sub frame for holding a side cover like my slash six. Now I know. Michael
