Koni shock to final drive stud question

Post by ottr »

As I am putting together my drivetrain on my R90/6, I noticed the lower eye of the shock absorber diameter is larger than the final drive stud. Should there be some sort of sleeve to make for a better fit?

In looking up the replacements by Ikon for the older Konis, there appears to be some additional spacers provided. Could these be what you're missing? See this page for the basic version of the Ikons for their 7610 series:

Their dial-a-ride series 7610-1298 also show the spacers.

Yes, there should be a sleeve if that is the proper term. St.

Anyone know the sleeve size? Thanks to scharder7032 - Ikon sells spacers of various sizes.

Sorry no I don't. Perhaps a quick email to Koni would help? They are pretty good and perhaps would send you some. St.

Measure the outside diameter of the stud on the final drive. Measure the inner diameter of the sleeve on the bottom of the shock. The difference is the dimension you need.

Ikon Suspension seems to have the one I need. I measured the stud OD = 10 mm; the Koni shock eyelet ID = 12 mm, and the eyelet width ~22 mm. Ikon has a 10x12x22.5 and are sending me this steel sleeve. Gentleman from Ikon stated that they are nominal ID (slightly larger maybe than 10 mm) so that the sleeve can rotate on the stud and not bind or freeze onto it....
Thanks all. I'll let you know the fit....

Just following up on my promise to update the fit of the shock absorber bush, which fit well. (I ordered 3 and they all were slightly different but all fit. I also found out that there is a BMW part number for this bush which is still available: 33 11 1230350
