Heinrich full leg shield mounting hardware

Post by Bjbkgrahb@gmail.com »

Looking to figure out how to mount my Heinrich leg shield to my 66 R60/2. A picture would really help so I can buy or make brackets. Thanks

Bj-
Are you asking about mounting the single big tub, or the pair of individual shields?
Picture of what you have helpful.

So with the help of Bill's pics, installation is-

1- Drop tub over gas cap
2- tighten nut on front grill

The beauty of using these tubs is both the great weather protection and the quick/simple install.
The upper fairing installs with similar ease and protection.
Made it easy to remove/replace depending on daily weather conditions.
Downside is if the increase in engine noise is a bother, though many of us used to line the backsides with some sound deadening material.
Similar to Bill's, I modified mine for use on either solo or s/c.

I could see there being a bit of an issue if trying to mount a tub for a standard tank over the sport tank.

I don't have the grill, would like to get one if available. I know it is possible to mount shield without grill just not sure how.

Used to be that some guys would just drop the tub over the gas tank and go.
I don't know if they were doing that because they'd misplaced the grille, or just didn't have the time to fully install.
And I've got no idea how much the tub might have rattled around if used unsecured; but it could surely be bungee corded in place with a little imagination.

Were I seeking an original grille, I'd probably start right here, and thoroughly peruse both current and older ads in the three For Sale forums- bikes, accessories, parts.
And then also put an ad on the Wanted forum; adding that you'd keep the ad up till a grille was found.

The grille is not overly complicated, so if no joy replacing it then perhaps find a welder/fabricator willing to duplicate it; unlike the tub or handlebar fairing, which are aluminum, the grille is made of steel.

Fwiw I've got a Heinrich fairing from a /5 for sale. Probably fits a /2 also.
Also have the individual lowers.
All mounting hardware.
In very good used condition. Fairing is black with white pin stripes. Lowers black with BMW roundel stickers.
PM if interested.

Has anyone used a plastic/leather apron that does the same job as the lowers? I have one with two leather straps around the carb. position but both have been cut. Presumably there was a loop (rubber?) which hooked over something to retain the apron.

There is also a leather tab at the back, over the seat, which also hooked into something.

The knees are beginning to complain after 50 years of cold and wet.
