Right brake housing loose

Post by dimitr0411 »

Hi I have a 1974 Bmw r90s that has a loose right break housing. I went to tighten the housing and the screw keeps spinning. I bought a wedge and didn’t work and also bought new screws and still nothing. How can I fix this.

Sorry just saw this. Will send picture this evening. It’s the right handle bar controls that are loose and can’t tighten to the bar. The throttle moves

Sounds like you're missing #13 in this diagram...it's grayed out because it might not be available. I forgot what they little triangular shaped items are called. I believe it's called a perch wedge.

I agree with Kurt, not I know what you are asking about.

Part 32 72 2 072 223 WEDGE FOR MAGURA GRIP,R26-R90S 0.01 1 $7.95

Max BMW has them listed as available.

Without this, the controls will not tighten on the bars. Good luck, St.

Have you changed handle bars? A smaller diameter bar may be too small. St.

The original post states the "screw keeps spinning" if that's the case then the threads in the housing are stripped or the screw threads are gone. Its more likely the housing threads are stripped out rather than the screw is damaged. It might be a matter of repair or replace the housing, either way you may have remove it to repair it properly or replace it.

You might be able do a temporary fix with a longer screw and a nut on the back side.

Keep us posted

Good catch, again I didn't read the post properly. Pictures would have helped, but anyway.

So, I found the unit on Max's microfiche, and looking at the item in question I see a few ways of going.

One, try a heli coil.
Two, drill, tap for a larger bolt.
Or use a longer bolt with a nut.

Good luck, St.

Thank you all for the replies. I guess I will need to replace the housing but will try the longer screw with nut for now.
