Shift shaft seal replacement

Post by "Donald Walter" »

Looks like the oil drip I saw on the left rear bottom of the oil pan may actually originate from the shift shaft seal. I've replaced one on my KTM 690 and want to confirm its essentially the same process on an S. IE either lean bike to the right or drain trans oil, remove shifter, remove old seal with a seal puller, slide new seal into position and seat with a suitably sized socket, replace shifter +/- trans oil. Missing anything? Tips?

Lean to right works well and is "most easiest". Put down a piece of carpet,
etc., to protect the valve cover. Depending on how long it is on its side
and the condition of the engine, it might make sense to then remove the
pluggies so you can spin the engine over and expel excess oil that might
have drained into the right cylinder. Avoids hydrolock.
