Pannier frame fitting

Post by "WindyK" »

I'm hoping someone can help me, I have purchased some used pannier frames for my r90s. They are black painted not chrome. The problem is that if I fit them flush with the rear fitting that sits on the rear subframe loop, the panniers clash with the indicators. Has any one had this problem? I tried to use a threaded bar to wind out the rear of the frames but this just looks wrong and isn't a good solution to properly secure the frames. Have I got the wrong frames  perhaps? A solution would be to reduce the length of the indicator bar so that the indicators are closer in to the centre of the bike. Perhaps there are different length indicator bars available?
All ideas welcome,

Thanks

There are different length bars. You can shorten yours. Plumping tube cutter.

This is how mine sit.
Perhaps show us a picture of your frames

A side view of the frames. I confess I made these up myself and didn’t include the curved bar over the rear shock that attaches to the rear footpeg bracket.

A pet peeve of mine are the rear racks that also sit on the rear edge of
the cosling, or worse yet, have a provision to drill into the cowling for
two bolts to fit through. The cowling is not at all sturdy and easily bent,
and holy cow, now there are holes in the cowling.
It's nice in concept but has a terrible ending.

To answer Peter, I’m going to cut the indicator bar as Warren suggested so I’ve already started stripping the lights down. I haven’t got the rear catches fitted yet but when I do I’ll share a picture with the panniers attached.

Thanks fo all the helpful comments
