How do you fit new needle rollers in rocker arms
Well I ordered some new parts to try and correct a noise in my left hand exhaust valve system.
I have a new push rod, rocker arm shaft and new needle rollers.
Any one done this job and have any advice on what to watch out for?
Help and advice much appreciated.
Regards
Mal

I have not performed this exact task but I have worked with needle rollers. One thing that I have found really helps keep the needles in place is STP or similar sticky product.

Re: How do you fit new needle rollers in rocker arms
The evil TIC remained.
I examined the wear on the shaft. It was only .001mm - very small really.
I pushed out the old needle rollers. This happens to be part of the arrangement I have for replacing little end bushes.
I then pressed in the new bearings. I put the bearings in the freezer and heated the rocker arms to 100F. I didnt want the bearings to fall in. I made a special press tool that holds the needles in place and presses the bearing in 1.3mm from surface. I reassembled the rockers and set clearances etc.
Did a short ride. The engine is now quiet like the right hand side.
I just have to decide should I do the inlet side??????
Cheers

Yes I am leaning that way. I guess the right hand side may be getting ready as well?
Thank you for your contribution to this matter as it progressed.

Re: How do you fit new needle rollers in rocker arms
I really appreciate the input I get from you guys.
Like St commented once, it is only fair I tell you how I got on and close the loop. It might help someone else later on.
It was amazing how loud the noise was and yet it wasn't easy to detect the play in the rocker arms.
And I am going to do the other three rocker arms. This bike is with me to stay, so I'll look after it.
Cheers
