Dellorto float height

Post by Onslo »

First post and it's a question sorry.
I have the original dellortos with 10gram floats and cannot find info on the correct float height. I do recall reading years ago that the height was 20 something mm. It is not the 17.5 - 18.5 mm posted in many places that seems correct for the later floats as at this setting the level is too high and will leak.
Anyone know the correct number? I have one clear cap that allows me to set the height visually and I have previously set it so that the fuel level is about 4mm below the cap seal.
Any advice welcome.
Regards Craig

Welcome Craig! Here's one page that discusses the Dell carbs. Near the bottom, Snowbum gives a height about what you posted but seems he likes using a volume measurement instead.

Thanks Kurt
I have seen Snowbums article but his figures are the same as most published data. Unfortunately for mine that is not correct as at 18mm I have petrol flowing out the top. I do know that somewhere the very early figure of 20 something mm was published, I have read it many years ago but now cannot find it anywhere. The 18mm figure comes up in every article.

OK. I think a place called BevelHeaven sells parts for Dells. Maybe they have some tech info?

Just had a set rebuild by bevel. Very nice, all I had to do was raise the slide needle and balance them.
