Why?
Well following another look I thought, Oh the symptons suggest a bent camshaft or a camshaft with very bad wear.
So I popped the barrels off. One cam follower had a small speckle of pits, the other three very good.
Camshaft may be slightly bent by about .005mm, but at present I have not worked out a methodology for confirming that.
As best I can see the cam surfaces look serviceable.
So I am going to put in a new set of rings, replace the faulty cam follower and replace the front camshaft seal.
New parts on the way.
I have cleaned the heads, lapped in the valves (a little pitting on the exhaust valve seats.
A light grind and that looks spot on.
Then Im going to put her back together and ride with a rattle that will in due course require me to pull the camshaft.
Thought some who have followed the rattle question might be interested in progress.
