California and vintage BMWs?

If one has few opportunities to visit California (let's say San Diego and surroundings once a year). What is the unmissable destination that every lover of vintage motorcycles, and especially the /2, should visit? Workshops, museums, collectors. Any suggestion is welcome! Greetings to all!

Solvang is in a very nice part of California and I agree that the museum is really special, but Solvang is 250 miles from San Diego. If you are on a /2, you might plan an overnighter.

If your emphasis is on riding, I would suggest going east on Interstate 8 then north on CA 79 through Descanso and Julian.You'll get a good sampling of landscapes and small towns and some great desert views. Study your maps and you can plot several ways to loop back to SD without backtracking. It would be a good (long) day ride. I've put a jillion miles riding that part of the state since the 'sixties and I never get tired of it.
