Adventures with Cucumber the R75/6
Thank you ever so much for the members who have guided me through the process and helped me get a grasp on the model variations and the other subtleties of this generation of bikes.
Cucumber was bought new in November 1976 and has just a little less than 100,000km's on the clock. We are the third owners and we have quite a lot of providence on her that fills in some of her background.
For the moment I thought just a quick ride report on the first 150kms travelled.
Good points
Handles without any nasty surprises
Suspension was fairly good once I let down the tyres to a respectable pressure.
All the electronics work fine.
Engine is smooth above 3,000RPM - lower down she is a bit lumpy
Points to think about
Can be a little hard to select first occasionally
Can make a bit of a funny noise when I snap off the throttle - final drive????
I think the carbs might need a bit of a sync
Obviously I need to run through the various fluids and adjustments (valves etc)
Are we happy????
Yes very happy, Cucumber is tidy and any things which need attention are relatively minor or are totally optional (example the front disc rotors are from a later model and somehow just look wrong).
It comes with colour matched "S" fairing with correct clock and volt meter, which we will put on when I get a chance.
I want a set of panniers for the bike. After all I cant really imagine a BMW without panniers.
So where does that leave the Guzzi V7 in the line up????
I need to think about that.
Here are the first photos taken when we picked up Cucumber yesterday.

Yes she runs sweetly and she has very few aberrations.
I want a set of panniers for her and a couple of bits and pieces, but this is not a restoration project with a coat of paint covering a multitude of sins.
Very happy indeed.
Cheers

She ran perfectly and I have little to complain about. The indicator switch design is adequate, and maybe a life time of wear has left it feeling less than perfect. Just a little too easy to bump on or off for that matter.
Here is a couple of pics showing a slice of the action.
