I was looking at rebuild parts for my Bing carburators and noticed that the diagram shows a spacer inside the motor side of carburetor called a centering Bushing. I've been riding the the bike, a 69 R50US for 9 years without this part installed and wondered if I needed to put them in.
Probably not a big deal, but a cheap part nonetheless. I probably wouldn't make a special order to get them, but next time you order parts why not replace then. There is a step cut into the carb to accomodate the bushing. It's a ring with a split in it if I recall correctly.
I think their purpose is center the carb onto the input flange as well as help seal the airflow through the carb into the head. Without the "bushing", what is sealing is just the fiber washer that isolates the carb from the head.
