Hello

Post by Adamw »

Hi All

New member to the site and new to BMWs. I just purchased a '59 R26 that became available locally. Currently, it's a parts bike but I've found that I like saving bikes from the scrap heap. Currently working on a 84 Honda CL450 that was in similar condition. Other project bike is a 66 Ducati Scrambler. Back to the R26. As you can see, it's a mess. Major missing part is the rear fender/tail light, and carburetor (so far!), others are, stator cover, battery cover, toolbox cover, who knows how many small parts. Haven't really touched it yet as I'm waiting on some reference materials to review prior. Any recommendations on websites and books are welcome.

-Adam

I am sure you will find lots of helpful information here. Unfortunately I don't own a single so really no help at all - but welcome anyway.

Welcome and good on you for saving the BMW.
Probably find it quite a bit different than bringing a Honda back to life but if you got the spirit (and $$$) I'll bet it'll be a beauty.

Just sold my 1966 ca95 Honda Benly ("Baby Dream). Even the Japanese parts market is getting pretty pricy.

R26 options

Looks like a fun project. You will find good resources through this forum, the single forum (http://bmw-einzylinder.de/forum/index.php?board=6.0), Vech and Richard at Benchmark Motor Works and the fiche at Max BMW. The new manual should be out shortly from Barrington Motor Works (http://www.barringtonmotorworks.com/) - just for singles!. Carb rebuilds, electrics, stainless hardware, timware....all available. There are several of us with extra parts as well...I bought two basket cases ('56 R26 and '60 R26), spread all the parts on the floor and, using the parts diagrams, determined I had enough to assemble the '56 bike. It is now a sweet runner thanks to Vech and Richard + lots of hours. It costs more to make a good one than they are selling for at the moment but it is a keeper in the fleet. Good luck-
Chris
