R51/3 front fork hex head fitting

Hello, this is my first topic in this forum. First of all excuse my poor english
I have dismounted the fork for restoration and the hex fitting on the top of the tube where the damper is attached. I have two diferent fittings one with two holes and the other one without holes. Wich is the rigth one?, with or without holes

Ramon,

The holes were added for breathing when upgrading to the rubber gaitors. The holes where there to stop (or tried to stop) the rubber gaitors from collapsing when the suspension rebounded. I have seen them do it anyway even with the holes but that is why they are there.

If you have metal shrouds the holes are not needed but are not bad to have either.
