Question re. 1991 R100....

Post by CarlisleJoe »

Okay, sorry that this doesn't really qualify as 'vintage' but I'm looking for some guidance and hope one of you can help.

I own a 1991 R100 (not R100R, or RT) with about 19,000 miles on it. Once upon a time, a dealer told me it was a 'rare' model. I haven't ridden the bike in 5 years but it ran fine back then. I just posted it on Craig's List to sell it, and much to my surprise, I've had tremendous interest in the bike. The price I asked was $3000. I paid $4000 for it 11 years ago.

So my question is...am I missing something? Could this indeed be some rare model and is worth more than I asked, even in its neglected state?

Any places I can look to do more research?

thanks for the advice

Joe

Joe - I've not heard anything

Joe -

I've not heard anything special about the '91 R100R. It is the first year of the '91-'95 run of this bike...over 20000 R's were built. I can't tell just how many were built in 1991. This site shows the VINs by month and year:

http://www.bmbikes.co.uk/chassispages/e ... 1000P2.htm

but the dates seems to be a little messed up. Realize that a bike built in 9/91 to 8/92 would be considered a 1991 model.

Maybe the reason people are interested in it is the basic styling and the fact that it is a later model Airhead with not even 20K miles on it...it's not even broken in!!
