Carburetor Idle Speed

Post by 1eugene445 »

I'm having trouble getting my 1975 R75/6 to idle at a consistent speed.

When I get the idle speed just right for a hot engine, it races when the engine is cold.

When I slow the idle down with a cold engine, then it keeps quitting at stop lights when the engine is hot.

In other words, the speed won't stay consistent. All this is with the choke OFF also so that the choke fast idle is not coming into play.

Hey Gene, Im no master mechanic but in the past two weeks Ive become pretty intimate with the BING CV carbs. I had the same problem. I completely cleaned my idle jets and replaced the small o-rings on them, idles like a champ.Thats my two cents. Todd

Air leak?

Post by Darryl.Richman »

Sounds like you might have an air leak somewhere between the carb(s) and the head(s). Try spraying WD-40 around that area while the bike is idling. If the engine changes speed, you know you have a leak.
