I'm certainly have tinkering in my soul, but having owned a vintage 4 cylinder 1969 Honda for the last 30 years, I'm finding my 1966 R50/2 a bit challenging to work on. Even timing the /2 has escaped me. I'm finding that my points plate doesn't move as indicated by all sources. What I would really love is to watch someone tune up my bike.
in Northampton, NH does a lot of work on the older bikes including machine work (in their own shop). Last time I was there they had at least half a dozen projects underway on pre-70s bikes. They repaired my exhaust flange, did a complete valve job and bored out my cylinders to 1-over. All work was very well done. They also have a guy in parts - Rusty - who has extensive subject matter knowledge and experience.
Yes, thanks Pokie, I do live in Cedar City, Utah...about 3 hours north of Vegas and 4 hours south of Salt lake City. Would love to have an experienced wrench show me some procedures.
However, Youtube videos on timing and carb synch on /2 bikes would be priceless.
Hi Brian, I just talked with Bruce Davidson (well, emailed). He's in Las Vegas. He no longer has a shop but he said if you wanted to drop him a note, he will try to help you out. He's not real interested in starting another shop but would be willing to help out on a one to one basis. Contact him at boxerbruce@msn.com Please compensate him for his time, anyone willing to help out with knowledge and time should be compensated.
Thanks Pokie. Its 18 degrees fahrenheit here in Utah...My R50 is hibernating for winter. I may give him a holler in the spring when I start tooling again.
