1956 R69 speed ratio?

Post by The Plunger »

Hey all,
I'm searching for a correct speedo in KPH for my 1956 R69. I'm getting conflicting info as to what ratio I should have mated to my 35/11 final drive(3.18 ratio). The 1959 parts manual shows part # 80 80 084, a ratio of .75 for solo, but the Barrington manual lists
61 12 1 350 376, a ratio of .77 for solo. The location of the blue shift marks also has me stymied. Just where should the marks be on a kph speedo for the R69?
Thanks,
Brian

Maybe more conflicting info here:

It says a R69 solo should use a 25:8 final drive with a W=0.75 speedo.

As an aside, I think 32/11 is

As an aside, I think 32/11 is 2.91, not 3.91.

Kurt, thanks for that

Kurt, thanks for that informative link. All my 1955-1960 period literature lists the R69 with a 35/11 (3.18) final drive for solo. Even early R69S brochures list it with the 35/11. The 25/8 does not appear in any material that I've seen until about 1961. My '56 had a 32/11 (2.91) when I purchased it-obviously replaced at some point. I have purchased a good 35/11 as a replacement for my future resto to it's original German dealer bike configuration, thus the need for a kph speedo. I think either the .75 or .77 will do as there can't be too much variation in .02, I'd just like to be correct.
