Oops! There are a few extraneous pictures, but I guess the cranberry martini could be necessary to stomach the cost of the resto. :O

R26 has been at my mechanic's shop for a year,

Post by eblen6882 »

There was a significant delay due to my mechanic's preferred machinist, Jack, moving his shop to So. Utah.

Jack is set up and running again and will be boring the cylinder and grinding the valves this week. Tank and fenders are striped and clear coated and wheels being shipped to Buchanan's to be straightened, polished and spoked (is that a word?) I'm getting excited and looking forward to getting the bike back on the road. I will stop by the shop and take a few more pictures in the next week or so.

A few new pictures added today

Smugmug Linky

I decided to go with modern paint with clearcoat. The striping was done before the clearcoat to protect them. (When my Dad restored the bike in the 70's, I spilled gas on the fresh paint and messed up the striping, that shouldn't be a problem with the modern finish. We are expecting the cylinder and head back from the machinist in a couple of weeks, and I will stop by the shop to snap a few pictures. I'm impressed with how well the soda blasting cleaned up the nasty cast parts. They aren't pristine, but they look pretty darn good.

Looks like you're making progress! Don't let the pace get you down; it will all come together quickly in the end! (But there will be one item that will hold everything else up. DAMHIK this, I just do. :''( ) Good luck and keep the reports and pictures coming!

We are at the rolling frame stage. . .

Post by eblen6882 »

Engine is in process of being put back together, wheels, tires, new shocks assembled and back on the bike. Handlebars mounted.

The aluminum caps for the rear suspension had to be ground off to remove the old shocks, and they forgot to order the new ones. . . from the Fatherland.

My mechanics and I are sooo excited to see the light at the end of the tunnel. New pics are at the end of the gallery.Image

Ha! I noticed that in the picture of the engine, the cylinder is backwards! Not to worry, it's just sitting there for purposes of taking the picture.

The bike is almost completed

Post by eblen6882 »

My mechanic reported that he was surprised it started on the first kick. Top of the carburetor bowl is warped, causing leakage, so a new one is on order. Also a few other bits to be sorted before he will give it back to me.

At 90% complete, my bike won the prize in our local club bike show earlier this month!

I'm looking forward to riding it soon.
