Steam cleaning engine block?
Steam cleaning engine block?
First post as I am new to the club…
I am looking to clean up my engine block and spokes on my 76 R90/6.
I have read and watched videos on various techniques and solutions to break down the oil and grease in ridding out the decades of build up.
I was wondering if anyone has experience in using a home/commercial grade steamer? I am wondering if the steam itself is enough to break it down and bring it back to the patina aluminum finish.

Re: Steam cleaning engine block?
I have used several chemicals and bead blasting over the years but never steam. I would imagine it will do the job, but I am cheap, I won't go and buy a rig just to use a couple of times. Not saying you will, but that is my take.
LOL, if could rent a unit or borrow one, I would be trying it.
So far the best guy at cleaning stuff has been Brook Reams, I can't quote his exact methods of sprucing up stuff but it is amazing.
If you do go with steam, be sure to fill us in on how it worked out. St.
