stubborn swing-arm race removal - tool setup

Post by staggerlee »

trying to contribute and realize that this may have already been figured out.

ive been working on removing these races from the front swingarm for two days.

I tried heat, even tried putting swing arm in fridge then heating quickly.
The CycleWorks tool worked on all other bearings and races but not these. the bolt would just pull through the screws.

i tried so many things but here is what i came up with and it worked easily.

i combined the two CycleWorks tools (bearing puller & part of many-n-one) with a cheap bearing puller with arms.

take a look. hope this helps someone who might be working on a bike that sat for 32 years like mine.

Nice!! Where there is a will, there is a way. The EASIEST way to do it is to use a MIG welder and weld a bead on the face of the inner race. Then when it cools the race just falls out. I only did this on a swingarm I was getting powder coated. Not sure if you can do it without damaging paint, but a wet rag around race area would probably keep paint from getting affected.
