8 tooth starter ,solenoid problem

Post by wska »

Hi everybody.
I have 8 tooth starter Bosch number 0001157007 and solenoid Bosch number 0331302031.
Solenoid is dead. I'm not sure if the solenoid was right part for this starter.
What is the Bosch solenoid number for BMW part 12411243142?
How to find which solenoid is for 8 tooth or 9 tooth starter, what difference?
Thanks for your help
Peter

After a long search, I found 2 solenoid part numbers,
12411352540 bmw website number fit to my starter
12411243142 realoem number fit to my starter

I checked the realoem and BMW stores and other stores and each shows differently. Please, can anyone help me which part is for the earlier model, 8 teeth.
What are the differences between them?
Can they be replaced plug and play or are any modifications needed?
Can someone provide Bosch number for correct one please?
Regards.

Welcome to the forum! I don't believe you've mentioned exactly which model you have, the year. But from RealOEM:

- 12411352540 -- complete solenoid up to 8/1974
- 12411243142 -- complete solenoid from 9/1974

These appear to be for 8-tooth setups and the difference is that the later starters was a more powerful unit, 0.5KW @ 290 amps versus 0.6KW @ 320 amps. Snowbum discusses starter and bendix drives on this page:

Near the top, look for the section titled "Types of Bosch starters, differences, flywheel teeth differences"

You might look around for a engine repair shop, especially something that overhauls Bosch starters.

Other sources at EME:

And Motorrad Elektrik mentions they can rebuild a Bosch starter for $100:

Is easy to buy complete starter then only solenoid.
The starter looks very good condition and I need only change solenoid.
By the way, I'm polish, live in UK and my bike is r90/6 74' imported from Florida :)
Thank You again
