hand control levers

Post by dardaris2725 »

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!
I'm in the process of resurrecting a '54 R51/3. While looking over the controls on it, and in my assortment of parts, I have questions about the two different types of levers I have.(all are the "blade" type)
1) Which style is newer, and when was the change made?
2) I assume the newer is an improvement; does one have better feel?
3) Does the newer design work in older perches? And vice versa.
4) how can you identify a perch to know what style of lever it should have?
Thanks in advance.

Damon,

I just checked my 1952 R 51/3 (early 1952) and my 1953 R 68 (early 1953) and both look like your right picture with the larger profile. My next newest motorcycle thats anywhere close to me is the R 50 S and that one has the narrower profile.

This does not necessarily answer your question, but gives a bit more information.
