The beautiful crank I purchased from Meyer (Germany) after loosing my original crank in the mail, didn't have a transition or edge that held the nose bearing off the timing gear. The other concern I had was I wanted the bearing to be fully seated into the front cover with just a little play for expansion. I tried measuring using flat bars and a vernier caliper adding and subtracting but then came up with a plan I liked better. I used a couple shims to separate the bearing from the gear and pressed the bearing in place. I lightly coated both the outside bearing surface and seat on front cover with Prussian blue. Screwed the cover in place, removed it then measured the gap. I now knew the exact distance I need to cover with the shims. I removed the bearing threw it away added the right amount of shims and installed the new bearing. I'm confident its right.
