Probably not a good idea starting the big occasionally...the water in the engine doesn't completely get removed and each heating/cooling results in more condensation. Snowbum has some suggestions for winterizing about mid way down this page:

Congratulations on the success of work done! Too bad old man winter is so close you have to think about storage instead of riding.

What Kurt wrote about storage.

Before I built my shop, I stored my bikes in my Rochester NY garage for the winter. There wasn't much of a problem with condensation causing rust as the bikes were kept dry and temperature changes were not great day to day.

I DID have a problem with condensation when I would fire up my Kerosene torpedo heater to heat the garage to work on things. The temperature change and heater caused moisture in the air to condensate on all my tools and any other metal that was cold in the garage. Not sure If you have hobbies and heat like that but it is something to think about. St.
