Seat fitment cross reference

Post by RoadsNV »

Looking at upgrading to a more comfortable seat. I have a 1980 r65. Will a seat that fits a 1988 R100 RT fit with no modifications, or what mods would be needed?

Good question! If I had to surmise, I'd say no. The R65 is twin shock, right? The '88 RT is mono shock. The wheelbases are R65 = 1390mm and R100RT = 1465mm. Seems like those things make for very different seat supports.

Yes, I have twin shocks. Sounds like sound logic. Thanks for the insight. I hate to drop a couple hundred$ with no returns.

All of the twin shock R65s (and R45s) have a smaller frame than the larger bikes, so I would expect none of the other seats to fit.

Thanks for the concise info, Darryl. That makes sense. I bought (what i hope is) a 1980 r65 seat platform with the foam and no cover. A friend is an upholsterer. he is going to give me a deal on making a nice seat. This allows me to keep my original one as original equipment.
