Frank, I remember well meeting you so long ago, glad I did too!!

Below is the response James Wonder recently sent to the R90sWorldnet, I
hope this addresses your question. James handles all technical aspects for
the Vintage BMW Motorcycle Owners, and designed and set up our website for
instance. He also successfully saved and transferred all the data from the
wonderful website that Darryl Richman previously set up, which was superb,
thanks Darryl. We would not be here today except for all the work Darryl
accomplished for us vintage owners!

Hans, et. Al.

First I will introduce myself, I am James Wonder and I am the “tech nerd”
for the VBMWMO and I will answer as many questions as possible on
technology here inline and do my best to answer any new ones anyone may
have along the way as we migrate. I have also copied Kurt Schrader on this
email, as Kurt is our most wonderful forum owner/manager!

Second, for some background, we use the phpBB software <
https://www.phpbb.com/> for the forums and it is very robust with a great
user community. Because of this it is quite easy to add features to the
system, hence we are able to respond to wishes you may have now and in the
future. Over the past several years we have added features to the forum
based on member feedback and I do have a small list that I am continuing to
work on (which includes a “like” button on topics which we do not have yet,
but coming soon).

Third, to answer your question, there is a fairly robust email function
that you can customize to your liking. Please see the links below:

1) Go to:
ucp.php?i=ucp_notifications&mode=notification_options
and you can customize WHAT emails you would like to get. I have them all
set on! This page will allow you to customize your options for getting more
or less email, hence getting more or less work done…. ;-). The explanations
are below:

2) You can subscribe to the whole forum by clicking the “Subscribe Forum”
link at the very bottom of the page (in the blue area) or by clicking here
if you are already have an account:
viewforum.php?f=17&watch=forum&start=0. When
you subscribe to a forum, and have everything checked in the notification
options you will get an email when person creates a new topic or replies to
one.

3) If you do NOT want to get a notification for everything in the R 90 S
forum, you can subscribe or bookmark a specific topic by clicking on the
down arrow next to the wrench icon. You can also email the topic to
yourself or print it from there.

What we do NOT have right now that you may want is the ability to send the
text of the whole new topic or post to you at the time of the post like
groups.io <http://groups.io/> does. Nor do we have the ability to create a
“digest" a forum/topic update for nightly sending. I will be looking into
both of those as we go forward.

I hope this helps, and I am here (and on the forum) to help in whatever you
may need going forward.

If there is anything you need/want please let me know.

James

Dear Mac

Sorry to be one of the tardy ones. I’m so appreciative for all you’ve done over so many years to keep this group alive. So you have my vote by proxy to do what you think is best.

In truth, I miss the old “yahoo group” days when this forum was at its liveliest. Perhaps a change will nurture more engagement again? At least I hope so.

Meanwhile, several interesting National groups have appeared with equal enthusiasm. In Spain, France, the Benelux… very cool to follow along too.

The first group I became involved with was the original R90s Sport Owners Club co-founded by Ken Claus (then from Ohio) whom I had a chance to meet in Paris many years ago when he revived the club he formed in the 1970’s. Back then we made quarterly newsletters back and distributed them by e-mail. Also made several group purchases of various parts and ré fabrications. Bill Stevens from Bellingham WA took over this group for years, until as I recall its membership mostly morphed into what is now the Worldnet. Of course there’s also Frank Cachia (Australia) who founded the original R90s world registry. I’ve met dozens of other passionate R90s enthusiasts over the years, too many to mention here. But nobody more than yourself who has given so much of their precious time to R90s enthusiasts over so many years.

Since the 40th anniversary in PA now 10 years(?!) ago: life, family, health and work have seriously cut into my R90s enjoyment time. So for now I’m lurking, but have not disappeared. Hopefully full retirement next year will allow me to focus more on the fun stuff. Thanks again.

Best regards, Kirk Ratzel

Nice to see Ken Claus’s name in your message Kirk, I bought my 75 R90s from him around 2.5 yrs ago! Class act all around.

To add I support Mac’s decision to utilize VMBMWO, been a member there since 2011 (off and on with the magazine subscription - but will refresh that as they need the support).

Thanks Mac and all here who keep the information flow alive for these lovely machines.

Best,
Chris Perry (AKA Zodiac on VBMWO)
