As a correction to my note from yesterday, the silver RS has had a heart transplant from a 1986 R80 RT. With electronic ignition, smoother running than a 1,000cc engine and quieter valve train it is arguably the RS that BMW should have made themselves.

I agree, the R80 was the smoothest most dependable airhead engine. I've
seen some with easily over 250kmi
