handlebar lock

That's a fairly common malady. If the key is in the lock and the bars are turned to the limit, it can break the head off. Unfortunately, the lock only comes out of the headstock normally by using the key.

I'm not quite sure what your current issue is, however. If the locksmith can't remove the key from the lock, you may have to drill the lock and get a new one. The key should be the same key as your ignition and the lock for the saddle. I believe new locks are available from BMW. A locksmith should be able to set up the new lock to match your key.

I have a 75' 900/6 and the key was broken off in the lock by the previous owner. I've talked to locck smiths but the don't have a key to reset the lock. Any advice would be appreciated.
