$8300! This may have been a sham auction, but if not, I would not want to be around when the new owner takes delivery, or when they ask someone who is really knowledgeable about these bikes to provide a detailed assessment of it.

Thanks Again!

Thanks again everyone. Your sage advice is much appreciated. Based on some of the comments here, it seems the market for the r50 and r60 is pretty strong right now. Checking various sales recently it seems almost nothing has gone for less than $5k. Usually somewhere in the $8-10K range.

Does that price range sound about right to you experienced folks?

If you are diligent and patient, I believe that you can still get a nice R50 or R60 within the $8-10K range. When I say nice, I mean matching numbers, decent cosmetics, good mechanicals--ready to ride. That recent ebay bike was thousands of dollars away from that condition.

BMW R50 1969

Post by daniloranola »

Hi Everyone,

I just joined the site in hopes of learning more about vintage BMW motorcycles. I'm looking to buy either an R50/2 or R60/2 late 60's vintage. I didn't see a way to search the forum so forgive me if this is a repeat thread.

- any thoughts on buying an r50 v r60? Any preferences for one or the other?

- Is the forum an appropriate place to ask about the value of a motorcycle? For example, for the bike in the link below, any guesses on a fair price?

Thanks,
Patrick
