Strange bolt beneath the gearbox;

Did you follow this other thread:

Seems like there's some similarities there...

I don't see the parts number you mention. The ETK shows a part 11 13 0 007 163, a screw plug (M14x1.5), and there are two of them. One is obviously the drain plug...but I can't figure out what the other one might be.

No, I haven't seen it, 'till now. Anyway, Saintclair is worried about the non – original drain plug, which obviously went through a change and an improvisation took place. No reference to this strange piece that is also fitted there. Any idea? The parts book describes the separated pieces as spring, stop pin, bolting piece etc. but does not give a name to the whole parts assembly…

click on transmission

it's the dingleschollfer for the kick starter

ok I'm just kidding about the nomenclature

part numbes 92, 93, 97

pretty sure something mean will happen with 83, 85, and 91, but, not impossible to cure

That cover or bolt takes the other end of the foot brake return spring. I think you've got the right part number for it. From the drawing, it looks like removing that could cause problems in the kickstarter area.

I thought it was the attachment point for the centerstand spring, at least that is how my R6 is set up. The prewar and postwar transmissions cernterstands are similar.

There's a special bolt (p/n 10 06 212 "Einhaengebolzen") that attaches horizontally to the left side of the transmission, that takes the centerstand spring. If you look at Micha's photo above, you can see both the centerstand spring and the bolt.

Mystery solved

Post by Micha »

Darryl was the closest one: Mark Huggett explained to me that this part has 2 functions: Internal – holding spring and pin for kick starter ratchet, and on the outside there are bikes that the return spring of the foot brake lever is hooked on to it.
Always good to ask.

But which bikes had a footbrake return spring attached to that post and what was the part number for that spring?

Based on the Ersatzteillistes on John's Beemergarage, the post was first added to the plug on the R51-R71 models. The foot brake return spring on these models, however, shows to be mounted directly on the foot brake rod. I can find no reference (illustrated or not) to another foot brake spring.

This Ersatzteilliste is a 1941 version, so possibly it was only on the early machines. I will check my early version books tonight....an interesting trivia question.

ciao,

Bruce

The R51/2 parts list (in the silver behlfs-katalog) shows the same parts. The return spring (rueckzugfeder, p/n 40 44 217) is shown with the frame parts.
