Early R50 blade-type brake/clutch perches
Can anyone help me end up with the correct perches without having to pay 'an arm and a leg?'
This is the best club ever!

What doesn't fit
later throttle perch does not have cutout for turn signal switch

Re: Early R50 blade-type brake/clutch perches
It looks like your perches are correct. It is hard to see in the pictures, but it looks as if you have the cutout for the turn signal on the throttle perch.
Standard size for the handle on throttle perch is 40mm measured from the center of the bolt hole to the top of the handle, see https://bmwclassicmotorcycles.com/index ... mooth.html.
The clutch lever has two sizes, 40mm and 45mm and you need to measure.
To make matters even more complicated, the brake levers for the plunger motorcycles are different (and measured different): https://bmwclassicmotorcycles.com/index ... -1979.html
I have several Magura handles here in a box that don't seem to fit anything as well, so I would not be surprised if yours are not correct.
I would be interested in the measurements you have.

You have the handles swapped side to side!!! The hole for the cable end goes in the bottom, not the top. Try that first!

Re: Early R50 blade-type brake/clutch perches
Regarding the fit of the handles to the perches: I tried each 'spear' on the other perch first. The clutch one has a much thicker mount, and will not go in the throttle side perch. Also the holes for the retaining screw do not line up. As for the throttle side, the contours of the mounting side of the 'spear' are different, and will not close completely.
I will try turning the brake handle around as you suggest, James (just finished my morning coffee, and have yet to get going!)!
I also have noticed I don't have the little switch levers that go onto the turn signal switches. None of the better E bay sellers (Spike Buck, Mike Benoit, Meyer) display them separately.
I will look at the links you suggest, examine my perch handles and perches again, then get back to you!

an educational study of levers through time
The later ball end brake lever 32 72 2 072 252 is the one in the first photo. Notice the shape of the part that fits up into the perch.
In the second photo is the ball end clutch lever 32 72 2 072 226 Notice the shape of the part that fits up into the perch. It is of the later "narrow" version, and is not made with the earlier style pivot mount.
The 3rd photo is the blade type brake lever, 32 72 2 072 253 Notice the shape of the part that fits up into the perch.
The 4th photo is the clutch lever, part number 32 72 2 072 214 is the later "narrow" style blade type. Notice the shape of the part that fits up into the perch. Completely different from the earlier 32 72 2 072 213 clutch lever in the last photo. Notice the difference in the part that goes in the perch

I will print it off and go to my shop to do comparisons.

I switched the levers around and everything fit just fine, just like you said, James!
What was thinking?
