torquing driveshaft bell on R50

Post by kenrcruise »

I realized after trying to torque it that the driveshaft bell nut should be torqued once installed in the swingarm housing (duh!). I do not want to stress the u-joints so I am wondering what is the best way to torque to the recommended 94 ft/lbs.

Hints?

Ken, I never torque it with the u-joint hooked up. I have a huge adjustable wrench that I put on the driveshaft yoke and have my son hold it while I torque the nut. It works well and does not put stress on the u-joint.

Thank you James!

Do you use anything to protect the shaft fom the pipe wrench jaws?

I am going to go to my garage today and install the driveshaft in the swingarm (already mounted on the frame).

I didn't get the impression that James was considering a pipe wrench. I took his "adjustable" wrench to be something like a crescent wrench. Maybe that allows access across the flats of the u-joint.
