Con-Rod issue
Con-Rod issue
I’m dealing with the results of a seizure.
The left con-rod on a /2 was starved for oil. The piston, pin and bushing were totaled. In order to remove the latter I had to use a torch on the small end.
In retrospect , I feel that the torch was maybe a mistake. On a modern rod for sure, it would be a no-no as they carry a high Rockwell hardness, but these old rods are a VERY mild steel.
Has anyone done this, and if so were there any consequences?
Subsequent question: I have not heard good things about new rods. Anyone have direct experience?
